Kinetic Equine Massage

Who We Are

Kinetic Equine Massage was founded with the belief that every horse can benefit from massage. Just like their riders, horses have muscles that can become sore and tired from overuse, incorrect movement and injury. We know that massage is not a cure all, but we are sure that it will make a positive difference for the horse. We are located in Western North Carolina and are serving the surrounding areas. Our therapist is certified through Equissage in Equine Sports Massage Therapy. Don’t let the word “sport” fool you; massage is for every horse.

If your horse is a top performer in their sport, retired, or a pasture companion, massage is for them. Every horse is still made of the same number of muscles, and each one has a specific need. Muscles make up 45% of their body weight, meaning that there is a lot of room for soreness. Massage is here to help relieve that soreness and allow the horse to move pain-free. That’s where we come in. We are here to help your horses live better, healthier lives.

Meet the Therapist

Kayla is our Certified Equine Massage Therapist (ESMT) and owner of Kinetic. She has been a “horse person” her entire life and has been riding since she could walk. She has her bachelor of science degree in Exercise Science from Gardner-Webb University. She was also in orthopedics for 8 years. Kayla has a love and understanding of a horse’s nature that comes from lots of time spent with them. She is a horse owner herself and loves to spend her free time riding both of her horses. Kayla’s personal horses get massages because she believes in the power that the massage has. Kayla has been around and trained in multiple disciplines, so she can relate to all forms of owners and athletes.

What is a Sports Massage?

Sports massage is a technique that goes from the head of the horse to their tail addressing every group of muscles. There are 30 muscle groups that are addressed throughout the massage. They are done systematically to ensure that every group gets the attention that it needs. We massage one side of the horse from head to tail and then move to the other side. After the massage is completed, the horse is led at a working walk for at least 5 minutes. In total, the massage takes around 1 hour.

We start with an evaluation to see where the horse may be reactive. We do this for our safety and for the safety of the horse. We want to tailor the massage to fit the needs of that specific horse. Just like their riders, every horse is different. The evaluation also allows the horse to know that this is going to be hands on and that we are not there to hurt, but help.

You will notice a difference with Kinetic.
